Sliding Sash Window U-Value Certificate

Independent Tests by Leading UK Company

Independent tests were recently conducted by one of the UK’s leading professional testing, consultancy, and product certification services, Build Check Ltd., specialists in Window Energy Rating (WER), air-tightness testing, U-Value analysis, acoustic testing, and CE marking.

Test for Heat Loss

To test for thermal transmittance of the sash windows, thermal analysis was conducted by U-Value simulation to determine the U-Value in compliance of Part L2, which specifically addresses conservation of fuel and power and energy efficiency standards. Levels of insulation are measured as U-Values, with a low U-Value indicating a better insulation level of a window with minimal heat loss. U-Values are measured in Watts per square metre per degree of temperature difference, which is abbreviated as W/m2k.

Our Score

Kingsbridge Joinery sash windows scored well within building regulation requirements, with U-Values of 1.5 W/m2k for the hardwood window and 1.4 W/m2k for the softwood or Accoya® window.

Air and Water Tests

Additional tests for air and water permeability were performed by the University of Ulster, and Kingsbridge Joinery sash windows performed extremely well, meeting category 3 with the highest level of 600Pa.

Our Score

This category level means Kingsbridge Joinery sash windows can withstand winds of 71 mph.

Architects and Surveyors can Confidently Recommend Kingsbridge Joinery

Architects and surveyors can now confidently recommend Kingsbridge Joinery certified windows for all new build and renovation construction projects, knowing that our sash windows not only fully conform but more than satisfy the current UK & Ireland Building Regulations.

How do we do it?

These energy-efficient low U-Values are achieved by Kingsbridge’s innovative use of an extensive range of seals and brushes strategically placed in formation on frames, jambs, and meeting rails. Whilst this creates a fully sealed sash window with no gaps for thermal escape, the sliding operation of the sash window is not at all impeded by this low-friction sealing system. Argon filled, Low E double glazing comes as standard and the weight boxes are divided and sealed to prevent any heat loss or draft through the pulleys to the wall cavities.
